    Pink Kilt...?

My brother is getting married sometime next year, and he wants to wear a kilt. We're Campbells, and she's a Stewart, so a kilted wedding would be most appropriate. However, pink is going to be one of the primary colors for the wedding, and he asked me to see if I could find a tartan that was pink or had pink in it. The only one I've been able to find is the Mary, Queen of Scots tartan...

I suggested an SWK black shadow tartan with black shirt, black hose, pink tie, and pink flashes. I think the pink tie and flashes might also work with a Black Watch/Campbell kilt, especially if the shade of pink matched her dress or accessories.

    Any thoughts?

I get this question a lot since we do Scottish weddings. The answer is don't bother. First pink, peach mauve, mint and any of the other pastel colours that are so common with weddings don't show up much in kilts at all, never mind those available for rent. So unless you want to find a tartan in pink and have them made it is unlikely you will succeed. Besides it isn't needed. As you are Campbells it would be much more appropriate to wear the Campbell tartan. Amazingly this means you will find it for rent very easily if you don't want to purchase the outfits.

In order to get the colour the bride wants into the outfit make it part of the boutonniere the Groom's party wears.

Oh and why is the Campbell so easy to find? It's known more commonly by another name.

My brother wanted the pink kilt, not me, I'm trying to talk him out of it. I've already got two kilts in Black Wa... er, Campbell. I'd love to see me, my brother, and my dad in matching kilts. I've even offered to buy my brother a Stillwater heavyweight for the occasion.

Sounds like he is trying to make the bride happy, but the question remains does he really want a kilt with pink in it, that he doesn't really have a connection with, after the wedding. He has to answer that question since the chance of renting what he is looking for is slim to none. I think he is better off treating himself to a proper Campbell kilt for the wedding since he will have it for years.

He is the drummer in a punk band and a tattoo artist, so maybe he wants the pink for shock value?

You and I are in total agreement here. I'm gonna keep working on him. But, I will also keep looking for a tartan with pink in it, so when I can't find one, he can get, as you said, "a proper Campbell kilt."

He always teases me about my "man-skirt," yet he asked me to find him one for his wedding. I think I may turn him yet.

Oh, if he wants the pink to clash, then he needs pink accessories. Get some light pink wool and put it around the sporran. I'm sure that will stick out on the black and look completely aughful.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Maybe Panache can help with a pink kilt.

The colors at my wedding were hunter green and navy blue. My kilt had neither (see my avatar). The only thing on the gent's side that matched were the groomsmen's flashes, which matched the bridesmaid's dresses.

    But that was our wedding.
