Great history KDawg,
Best get your's ordered up while Rocky still has material, or if you're going with wool Alexis Malcolm has them.
The two guys I knew were both friends and mentors of mine in AA. One was a corpsman aboard the U.S.S. Arizona but he'd been in town and gotten very very drunk the night before and thrown in the brig on shore. Probably saved his life.
The other guy was a fighter pilot that arrived on Dec 8th...too late to get killed, but able to help clean up the mess.

Just a little history note on the tartan: What has become accepted as the US Navy tartan is the US Navy Edzell Tartan. It was unveiled at the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the US Naval Security Group Activity, RAF Edzell's establishment on July 6th 1985 (I was stationed there from 1978-1981). In addition to the NSG and the Marine Support Battion, there were small Air Force and Army Intel detachments on board. The dark blue was chosen to represent the Navy, light blue for the Air Force, red stripes for the Marine Corps and Army, and white for the waves of the ocean.
NSGA, RAF Edzell closed in September of 1997 after a presence of 37 years. Here is a link to an article in the Dundee Courier on the base closure:

Semper Fi GatorUK,
Thanks for that background and link. Very touching. It hit me because my fathers letters home from service in the RAF in War II contain much the same sentiments when he spoke of the Scots....and English...
I didn't recall, or never heard, of the RAF, USMC, and Army connections to the tartan. I'll stand a bit taller when I wear it for what you've passed on.
Thanks,
Ron
