Your First Christmas Kilted

So, do you remember your first kilted Christmas? What was it like?

Mine was just three years ago. It was a pretty lonely one on Christmas day. My mother was still alive at the care home around the corner. Remember being there kilted but most of the residents are off in la-la land. Main thing I remember is sitting in the overstuffed couch my butt wound up lower than my knees and I worried about how to sit to keep my bits concealed.

Was off work for the week after and traveled to Tucson and back by way of Phoenix and Prescott and spent time with my lady, our friends, and my daughter and grans. Kilted the whole way. Don't recall any problems. Just fun. Kilting up full time on a long trip is a great way to get comfie with kilts if you're not already.

Good thread Ron. Mine was 2005. I had ordered a Night Stalker from Jerry, belt and sporran. I commited a few kilt "don'ts" but the overall experience was great.

I remember walking up the driveway at my cousin's house and hearing my aunt yell out "Mike's wearing a kilt! Where's my camera?!"

My family has always been supportive of my kilting and I may be able to report on a convert this year.

From this humble beginning I have become the Big Mikey that you know and love today.

My first Kilted Christmas was last year, we had our Christmas at my Aunt Jean and Uncle Murdy's house.
Here is the outfit I wore:

I was a new member of the forum then, and had one kilt, I have learned quite a bit about how to carry myself and how to wear the kilt. Despite this being an early kilted outing for me, everyone loved the fact that I was wearing the kilt. All I asked for last year was money so that I could buy myself a Prince Charlie, I ended up with enough to buy the P.C. and a dress sporran, so I guess that speaks volumes as to what my family thought of the outfit. This year I think I will wear my Dress MacDonald with my Charcoal Braemer and a Red tie.

Mine was last Christmas. I took the family to spend it with my mother, who had just decided to stop chemo and let nature take its course. Mom is my blood connection to the House of Gordon, and had alway "threatened" to get me a kilt, so she was thrilled that we were all there and in tartan. It was a bittersweet visit to the family farm, our favorite place in the world, because we would all be there for the last time as a "whole" family.

If things work out this week, I'll spend next Saturday(my birthday) finishing my first X-Kilt. Hopefully, this will be my first kilted Christmas. Wish me luck.

Actually, my first kilted Xmas will be next week on a cruise ship. My better-half and myself will be spending our holidays on the high seas of the Caribeann. There will be a formal Christmas dinner where yours-truly will be fully kilted with all the works. Quite excited about it.

My wife had reservations about me being kilted anywhere...but after she saw me in a kilt a few times, she thought I cut quite a nice figure. It was her idea for me to wear the kilt to that dinner. Good thing too...because I look "terrible" in a tux.

Last year was my first "kilted Christmas" as well. I wore the Gunn modern USAK with this "aran" type sweater the mother-in-law got me as a Christmas gift. I apologize for the lousy picture.



A week or so before that was the company Christmas party. I wore my Henderson ancient with tweed argyll. Again, poor picture. But, none-the-less here it is.
