Cotton hose in the winter?

Yesterday I wanted to wear a blue shirt with my leatherneck tartan and for me that calls for blue hose. It was rainy, cold and windy (well, as cold as it gets here in Southern California) - so I go to my hose drawer and rummage around for my blue wool hose. Dang! they're in the wash. What to do? -What to do?

I chose a cream color thin summer hose and slid some equally thin blue summer hose over the top. Not too thick, and they looked OK too.

The result? I was warm enough.

Conclusion: Two pair of light weight summer hose, come close to one pair of winter weight wool hose.

Interesting, though if it's too wet out I wouldn't want to be wearing cotton, that's for sure!

I did say that it was cold! But cold is a relative term. For me, with my blood all thinned out from living here for so long, that means anything below 40 degrees F.

That's the main consideration. If you're going to be mainly inside, cotton is fine. If you're going to be out in the elements, cotton is not a good choice.

Nah, it's the alcohol that's thinning your blood. As they say, "If the shoe fits, wear it?". Although as one with 5 leatherneck kilts (sixth on the way) only one pair of blue wool hose? I think somebody should be cruising over to Matt's website and ordering some more blue hose and traditional flashes in time for you kilt delivery.

Sorry Jay not trad. flashes but trad. garter ties. McMurdo has a pair (well more now) he's a convert, swears by them. I'll be ordering some with my new MacLachlan by Matt.
