Go for safety first. A lot of the DIY threads don't emphasize safety enough. No naked casting! As a hobby it is not too expensive to get into. There are very detailed instructions on mold making on youtube. Also look into sand casting and lost wax casting. You can find everything you need online. Feel free to PM me with specific questions.

Remember this isn't hard. If you make an error just melt it down and do it again. I'm almost back in the bronze age in terms of technology. Remember this stuff was done before the invention of propane and synthetic materials with beautiful results.

Your school may offer a jewelry, or dentistry course that teaches casting including advanced techniques. I've acquired an old spin casting machine and will be doing some silver over the Holiday.

If you live near a city that has a jewelry supply store then you can get everything you need to get started.

    O'Neille,

Finally had the chance to "Pay Forward" for your beautiful candle pin.

The American Red Cross is an important part of the Military Community in which I live. They do a lot for the Soldiers and Family members who are separated from their own families. They were wrapping presents for donations at the Post Excange here the past few weeks.

Here is my donation, on your behalf:

The young lady was helping at the booth. I wore the Candle Pin as a lapel pin today, with my Ancient Hay Kilt. It is nice for the Christmas Season. I've also worn it as a badge on some of my Balmoral Bonnets. Just the right size.

Thanks for the pin and I wish you a Happy Holliday Season.

    Tom
