If I understand this picture when you finish the leg you knit the cuff "sideways". The red is waste yarn to hold the stitched until you return to it. I have not thought of this approach. I have a lot to learn.

I don't see any red yarn. I see a gold color and a natural color. I wouldn't use red as a waste yarn because red leaves traces when taken out.
