If you simply don't have $250 to spend on your kit, then you don't have it and what REALLY is going to count on that day is not what you wear, but the people you share the day with. That said, if you can cough up the money, HANG THE EXPENSE, and buy the flippin' tank and rent the bluidy Prince Charlie. There are days to pinch pennies and days NOT to pinch pennies. Get matching tartan ties and/or bow ties/cummerbunds for the groomsmen and enjoy the day..
BTW, your bride is a looker!
Thank you for all of the excellent advice and the compliment. I have pretty much made up my mind to wear the kilt. I have not made up my mind whether to rent or buy, though. But you all have brought up excellent points and have made my job much easier.
