I agree its too dark. A wedding shouldn't be dark and gloomy, it should be a happy occasion. Use a white shirt and add some color with a tie and flashes that match. Personally I don't like the black socks look for a dressy look I like the balance of shirt and socks being the same. Remember pictures of the bride will have you in it too and you should look like you are happy (unless you are doing a goth wedding).

from both southern US coasts!
Dress shirt most definitely. I'm sure your future wife and mother-in-law would agree.

If it is for a wedding, dress it up with a Prince Charlie or Argyll jacket.
A black shirt with black Argyll and colored tie is reasonable, but the PC with white shirt is still the best.

There is no way to compare the puffy shirt to a Jacobite shirt. Yes some people think it is a pirate shirt but you should go with what you and your girl friend like.
If you are going for all black I would go with the Jacobite and a black (leather) vest? Get the colour in your flashes.

First of the kilts arrived today. They look great. I was worried they would be too light but they have a good weight to the, The greay is lighter than the picture showed on my monitor but I like it.
The sporan chain was a bit too short for me. What is the best way to lengthen it?

I personally like how I look in all black. I know some have called it too dark, but to each his (or her) own. As for the shirt, I prefer the look of a plain shirt. But it's your and your bride's day, not mine.
As for how to lengthen a chain, could you insert a length of leather between two links? If you only need to make it slightly longer, you could hide the leather part with the sporran and it would look like chain all the way around...I've never tried it myself. Just an idea...

Get both! Wear the dress shirt to the ceremony, and the Ghillie to the reception/evening do!
Had I had the spare money, thats what I would have done!

Don't know anything about NZ law, but I do know that most commercially available sgian dubhs are not double-sided (usually described as double-edged). Just one sharpened edge, and sometimes not even that. Suspect someone gave you bad info.
Best regards,
