The article is quite political in nature, as is nearly every discussion that might come up about the 'Cringe', so I'm obviously reluctant to say much more. But, yes, you've identified a large part of what lies behind that earlier discussion.

The article made me "cringe" to be honest, its perspective is a bit off, and there are some inaccuracies but anything that brings scotland to the forefront is a good thing.
