Never heard of the "Scottish Cringe" but I'm sure that that's what some of us were asking about in the "Kilts in Scotland" thread.

The referenced thread spawned What Makes a Scot? in this off-topic section. I thought that second thread was one of the ugliest I've seen here. The cited article and book discuss some of the issues that make people so passionate - and rude.
