Michael, here is another look at a black ensemble. This one uses a Stillwater Kilts heavyweight black "shadow tartan" kilt.
Cheers

Thanks for that. I know have the kilts, sporran, belts and socks. Just need some sgian dubh (can rent them but feel like it is something you should own) and we are about done.
The Bridesmaids are all in black so Kathryn will stand out in white.
She has a piper playing as she arrives so our next job is to see what songs he knows.

Give the guy a break! His wedding day will be the last time he's allowed to decide anything for himself!
My choice would be to avoid the Jacobite shirt, but I would be careful in my choice of dress shirt: I would try to get one that has a collar constructed in such a way that it doesn't look to 'bare' without a tie.
All the best,
Troy

This is what we are going with. Socks haven't arrived yet and the shirt is straight out of the packet. (yes I will iron it before March).

I'll be the first one to ask: Whatcha gonna do with the extra kilt?
I'm planning a similar outfit for Burns night. My GF nixed the Tux shirt/vest idea so I'm going with a black dress shirt, tie and pocket silk with my black XKilt and Goodwill jacket.
Think Johnny Cash in a kilt.

I didn't nix it - I just discouraged it. I vote for a colored tie, though, on both parts. That is, if you go for a shirt that calls for a tie. I think a pop of color would be nice.
