Aye Robert,
Similarities Between Navajo Culture and Scottish Culture
Navajo Nation 26,100 square miles – Scotland 30,414 square miles
Navajo Nation population 165,00 – Scotland 5,000,000
Both cultures use a clan system
Both cultures were conquered and pillaged
Both cultures had their language banned
Both cultures had their traditional way of dress banned
Both cultures had their traditional spiritual ceremonies banned
Both cultures were removed far from their homelands
Both cultures raised sheep, spun wool and wove blankets and wool cloth
Figure that's enough similarity for a district tartan....don't know about creating things like Begay, Yazzie, and Tsinniginnie clan tartans for names. Maybe better for creating tartans for the Navajo clans like the Bitter Water, Towering House, Tobacco clans etc.
One common custom that's commonly seen is t-shirts made up to celebrate family or clan reunions. Certainly seems to set the mood for developing a tartan for that group.
But again, presumptious of a Bilagaana to do so.
