I wear a flat hat (or scally cap as some skinheads call 'em) on a daily basis, kilted or not. Of course, I only do causal wear right now, but if I was in a pipe band or needed to dress more formally, I'd probably get a more traditionaly hat.

Re: Headwear
Sorry I don't seem to know where my pics are (packed away in the garage, after a recent move) however I wore a hunter green 'Rogers Rangers' balmoral that has since seen better days (I wore it kilted or not).
For the last couple of years I wore a clan Mackay ball cap, but will be ordering a new Bottle coloured balmoral from J.Higgins soon, & will follow-up with a black one (which I'll remove the ribbons from) for 'everyday' wear.
I also remove the 'pom' from the tops of my bonnets, I'm not overly fond of them.
I'm also on the waiting list for a woad coloured flat bonnet, to use for recreating the Mackay Regt during the 30 Years War.
& I'm also looking for a nice russett tweed coloured 'flat (drivers) cap'.
Finally let me add that a friend of mine has inspired me to obtain a wide-brimmed boonie hat for those (very rare) very hot & sunny days we have in my corner of the woods. As a Cameron, he wears one with a Cameron Regt badge affixed to the front.
Sorry if I ran on a bit!

you asked for it
I just couldn't let it slide.
Hat is a resistol long oval cowboy hat. Also my favorite (more so than my stetson). Along with biker shirt and my Masonic trimmings

There is a lot being said with that outfit. It's like wearing your autobiography.

I only wear a topper if I'm piping, and in such a case, it is always a black glengarry with a black band and red tourie (Squint at my avatar). I'm not crazy about hats - it's just another thing that can fall off of me when I bend over. Then, I have to bend over farther to pick the thing up, which can cause other things to fall off of me..
I also have a lighter blue 'boneid' that I wear at The Texas Renaissance Festival up the road each Fall.
I did buy a black beret from the Army Navy Surplus Store, but I have not worn it much.
I'm surprised to see that several who have posted here wear the Irish caubeen. I'm much impressed by this more conservative bonnet as I find the red touries on the Glangarries and balmorals distasteful for my head.
For utilitarian purposes (read, 'shade'), I have worn my broad-brimmed cowboy hat at the Texas Scottish Festival at Arlington. This festival is held the first weekend in June, and it is either blistering hot or pouring rain. BTW, in that heat, I STILL wear a 16 oz. kilt!!

Now, I've always known and continue to call that cover a "touring cap". When it's really cold, I wear my tweed one; and, when it's really wet, I wear my waxed cotton Barbour touring cap.
