Thanks for the kind words!
Moosedog,
Lol, yeah, I think I look goofy when I smile (and when I don't smile ) so, I don't always smile in pics.
OFCJAX,
The lucky numbers are, 6,14,24,26,35, and 44. At least, that's what my fortune cookie said tonight.
cessna152towser,
Your tartan is in excellent hands. I love my two Freedom Kilts.
James MacMillan,
Thanks! How did you know that it was sewn by Steve?
SteveB,
No, Hamish has nothing to worry about, but thank you for the compliments.
I like that belt, and think it works well with most of the kilts.
The Wizard of BC,
Thanks for the info again on the tartan. It's just a gorgeous tartan, and looks even better in person than can ever be recreated on a digital screen.
Marshal Moroni,
Thank you! This is my first wool kilt. It feels wonderful, you should definitely reward yourself when you reach your goal.
It wasn't too long after Steve shared those first pics of this wonderful tartan that I was on the phone with him. While I had in my heart, to get a kilt done up in the japanese tartan, this one was equally (if not moreso) beautiful. And!!! I had somewhat of a connection to it, being Canadian born, (and having shopped at the Bay for as long as I can remember ;) )
I also was really intrigued by the look of the box pleats that had been showing up on xmarks. The comments on how it's also easier/more comfortable to sit on, in addition to the weight savings, well, I put two and two together and got my order in.
I decided that since this was a tartan, it just wouldn't look right with cargo pockets on it. Although I don't use the rear pockets often on my maroon cargo model, I felt like I should go full bore, and went with those, in addition to the slash pockets, and of course, that under apron pocket.
When I opened up the package, I was amazed to see on that little kilt passport that Steve provides with the kilt, that it was sewn by Steve. (Erm, unless there's another Steve that works at his shop?) That was quite the pleasant surprise. Nothing against any of Steve's employees of course. My maroon model is better than excellent, and wasn't sewn by Steve. My kilt was made by the Wizard himself!
The rear welt pocket flaps line up quite nicely. Not 100% perfect with the tartan, but close enough that I doubt 90% of the people I meet would ever notice that they are there.
The slash pockets are lined, and feel quite nice. Not that I plan on walking around with my hands in my pockets, but it is yet another little pleasant surprise.
Also, as I mentioned, I have never had a wool kilt before. I was a little cautious about how it would feel. All I could think was how as a kid, I hated that itchy wool stuff. Either I was more sensitive back then, or this is a completely different animal. This stuff isn't rough or itchy and scratchy at all.
My only concern, is that I'm slightly nervous to wear it as much as I'd like. I'm notoriously clutzy, and I don't know what I would do if I was to spill something on this kilt. Bad enough if I was to do it, but I could also not imagine if someone else was to spill something on me!
Since that's my only concern though, I'm pretty sure you can tell that I'm super excited about it, and can't believe that I have it in my posession.
Mike
