I have 2 8 yard kilts from them and the pleats are great. I can't speak of the Isle of Skye, but here are the pleats from a 5 yard Weathered MacKenzie I ordered from them (later exchanged for an 8 yard kilt)

Yes, there is a reverse pleat on the right side, but it is hidden under the apron. It is very shallow, maybe only 1 inch. On the left side (as you are wearing the kilt) there is a larger reverse pleat, perhaps 4 inches.

I took a picture of the pleats from the back, but didn't post it since the material was wrinkled. They did not baste the pleats to hold them in place.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality of the kilt and the fit. No, it isn't an 8 yard tank, but it is very acceptable for a casual or semi-formal kilt.
