			SWK kilt arrived, but ...

My Stillwater Standard Black Watch arrived today, so I tried it on at lunchtime. And now I have a decision to make.
I measured as they directed on their website, and was considering ordering a 44. I re-read what they said, measured again, and decided 42 would be fine (and make me feel a bit better to boot. Gosh, I used to be a 32 ...). As much as I wanted to order a 40, I felt like I had to be honest with myself and buy a 42.

When I tried it on, however, it was a bit loose.

My plan of action is to try it on again tonight and see how it feels, and if I'm not comfortable with it, I should exchange it. Guess I'm just looking for reassurance that this is the way to go.

As long as the basting threads are still intact, shouldn't be a problem to exchange it. Stillwater is pretty good in any case. And you need to feel comfortable, or it's no use having it.

Sorry about posting this in the wrong forum ... if a mod can move it for me ... I can't see how to do so or to delete this ...
SWK service has been great, by the way. Just an understandable sizing issue.

					Yep, comfort is everything!
Make sure you have it up where you will be wearing it, with the belt and shirt you'll use most with it. Then decide.

When you do take the basting stitches out it will loosen up a bit in the hips but NOT in the waist.

Just send it back like I did

					Iain Robb,
Just send it back like I did, I had ordered mine too big too, and then my other problem was that the kilt was too long, so I had a tailor do a bind hem, and now I wear my Black Watch proudly.

 Cheers
 Chris

I tried it on in the evening, with one of the shirts I plan on wearing with it, and wore it for a while, and the fit actually seems fine.
Thanks for the reassurance, folks. It was a bit unnerving to go from "Oboy oboy it's here it's here!" to "O drat! Did I order the wrong size?"

But now I've taken out the basting stitches and presses out a few wrinkles, and I'm good to go!

I had the same issue with a thrifty and an economy. I moved the buckles on the econ. and put some extra velcro on the thrifty. I just didn't feel like sending them back. I figured what the heck, I'll experiment. My wife is a seamstress and she can bail me out if I mess up too badly. It worked pretty well and If I get fat (OK fatter) I'm all set.Bob

That's good news! If you should need an extra smidge of adjustment, it's dead easy to move the waist straps. It would probably end up fitting much better than the next smaller size.

As for me i would rather have a couple of different sizes to fall back to.My waistline goes up an down like the gas prices-mostly up.
In winter i get up to 36,and summer i usally stay around 32.

So i would hang on to it if its heavy enough to use in the winter months, but thats just me.
