My username is Duchess Of NC but it's not meant to be insulting. When I was a child my dad was very much into CB Radios. He and my mother had handles. So did my already then grown sisters. My eldest sister turns 50 this year in compared to my 31 that I will be in October. Anyway I digress.
Anyway I was five years old and I wanted my own handle. My Dad teasingly suggested for me to be princess and I replied that I didn't want to be a princess, I wanted to be a duchess. I remember in one of my story books that described the life of a princess as being hard and onerous but her friend who was a duchess had more fun. And no I can't remember where I got the story from. I've spent quite literally a dozen years or so trying to find it.
The of nc is because Duchess plain is usually taken. I have since used duchess as part of my writing pseudonym (I can't spell tonight) which is Duchess McKinnon. The McKinnon coming from of course my Scottish roots. My Dad was very tickled that I had chosen the name combination as my pen name.

Avatar is me coming home from church in my Irish National SWK.
Name is SteveB Short for Steve Brown, my name. As a boy it was Stevie B, then as a tall skinny teenager, it became SteveB. It has on and off stuck since.

My name is a concatenation of the ancient clan Chattan and my last name Catanach which was part of the great clan.
I would add that your knot work resembles the head of a cat as well.. nice homage to the crest of Clan Chattan.

I chose Scotus in honor of Bl. John Duns Scotus.
My avatar was made specifically for me by a Scottish baron. It represents a medieval chief of Clan Comyn.

Simple.
After 40 years, the only thing that my typing fingers and my eyes can agree on is my own name. Everything else is subject to heavy scrutiny by spell checking software. My avatar is me in my favorite bonnet and parka, standing by my favorite tree in the yard. It's probably the first time in 10 years that I'm in close proximity to it without a lawn mower.

Gee, we just did this topic a few months ago:

My screen name comes from my interest in the American canal system of the late 18th and 19th centuries. Canawler was the term used to describe those who worked the canals.
My avatar is just a weird picture of my cat, Max:
