What does your name/avatar mean?
You know some profile names & avatars are fairly self explanatory. But there are many here that are not so self explanatory, and I'm sure have an interesting story behind them.
So I thought I'd ask the question:
"What does your profile name and/or avatar mean?"
I'll start off:
BoldHighlander --
this goes back to when I first got a computer and had to come up with an email account.
Tried many, most taken, so my mind went back to a scene from my favorite Scottish themed film 'Rob Roy' (1995). The scene is after young Macdonald has been murdered and the money stolen by the fop Cunningham. Robert Roy Macgregor is seen approaching by the Marquess of Montrose who is having his portrait painted:
"Ah, here comes the Bold Highlander.
No **** in his breeks
but too proud to tug his forelock."
That phrase, the Bold Highlander has forever been burnt into my mind, and as I favor Highland rogues (like Rob Roy) and have been called a rebel & a rogue myself, well....
As for my avatar, it is of one of the earliest prints made of Highland garb. It is from the 1631 Stettin print of the famous Mackay Regiment in the service of the "Lion of the North", King Gustavus of Sweden, during the Thirty Years' War.

----------------------------------------------------
Another of my favorite lines from 'Rob Roy':
Montrose:
"You are damned, McGregor.
Damned to hell."
Rob Roy:
"Come, Your Lordship.
Leave the devil some work."

When first deciding to join this forum I knew I needed a screen name, after a few tries I came up with Arizona Scot. Since I am a native and resident of Arizona and of Scottish decent it seemed natural. As for my avitar I am not very good with computers so I had my wife help me and this was the most celtic thing in our clip art program.

I change my avatar and signature from time to time, so it's hard to say.

My screen name is a merge of a nickname given years ago (Kelvar for Kevin) and 70 for the year of my birth.
My current avatar is a "self-portrait" I took on the grounds of the Stone Mountain Highland Games. I liked the way the kilt looked on the long shadow.
"I'm 37, I'm not old!"

My name is my name, I have been obsessed with all forms of string for a very long time. When I was four I had a specific piece of string (more of a cord really) that i carried about. I am either string or stringthing everywhere I go.
My avatar is something a geeky knitting Terry Pratchett fan worked up, it is the crest of the Ahnk-Morpork Guild of Knitters

I believe the inscription translates as "Be quiet, I am counting."

Well, my name is... my name. Not very interesting.
I go by Dreadgerbil on other places, like my email.
The reason behind that? I used to date a girl who had used 'Dreadpersephone' as her username after studying that particular story in classics.
As a sort o fplayful jibe I decided to use Dreadgerbil.
It just kinda stuck. (Although most people read it as Dreadger Bill.)
As for my present avatar, it is a painting I really like of Prince Charlie saying farewell to Flora Macdonald after she saved his backside.
The image, not the story, appeals to my idea of being a rough sort of man and yet quite the Scottish gentleman.
(Hey, I TRY to be.)
Flora MacDonald by G.W. Joy. Flora Macdonald bids farewell to Bonnie Prince Charlie

McMurdo is my middle name, it is also the first name of my Godfather an Uncle who passed away late last year. My parents gave my the name because when my twin brother and I were born we were premature and my folks were told that I was not going to make it. They decided that I needed a good strong Scottish name, it looks like it worked.
My current avatar is a picture of me in my recently acquired Matt Newsome Ulster Red tartan:
