My avatar is my skunk sporran because: 1) I really like the way he turned out (considering it was a DIY project); 2) most other people seem to derive enjoyment - some at my expense - when I wear it; and 3) my body odor can always be blamed on him.

My username is explained in this earlier post:

    Thumbs up

The avitar is my clan , MacHardy, and the name is the Vietnamese word for pilot as I fly aircraft, paragliders, hang gliders and powered paragliders. Yes, I fly paragliders in a kilt.

    Obvious, isn't it?

Guess what, My Dad and Grandad always talked about the struggles of my Great-Grandad from Tralee County Kerry, thus the "Irish". All the first born men in my family, for several generations, have the same first name, Robert. So to differentiate various living relatives, there have been various diminutives, Bob, Rob,LeRoy, etc. I am the one presently answering to Rob, my son answers to Bub or Brandon. My daughter discovered that the Irish side originally came from Scotland as hired mercenaries, gallow glasses, and thus the Scot connection.

The avitar is a picture of myself, my daughter and my son following a piper down the streets of Cortona, Italy preceeding her wedding to a Scot from Scotland....kilt is from Celtic Craft Centre in Wallace.

    Thus ends the words of...

    Rob

My name is Turpin. It is an evolution of Thor of the Finns. My 28th GGF was named Thorfinn Rollo (Hausakliffer) Einarsson, a.k.a. "Skullsplitter", the 7th Viking Earl of Orkney. My avatar is a Thor Hammer. See also my signature line.

I guess I am pretty boring. My screen name is my initials and last name. My avatar is the Fraser crest. Maybe some day I will get a slightly more creative avatar.

Cyrano is one of literature's great characters. I think most people can connect with him as he embodies both our pride in our strengths and the shame of our insecurities.

Then of course there is his panache.

Panache is a French word. Anthony Burgess noted once that when he wrote his translation of Cyrno de Bergerac that he needed to introduce the audience to the concept of Cyrano's panache. Being it is not just his hat's white plume but also a representation of his character, his flair, his soul, and style. There just wasn't a suitable english word to replace it with.

    I just love the word.

When I needed an online moniker it seemed very appropriate.<<SNIP>>
I was so touched by the goodwill of this gesture, not to mention it a very cool avatar, that I have never been tempted to change it.

    Dale,

It is very French! It is pronounced "pa nash". Here is a link that has an audio pronounciation.
