Hello Terry,we call a "crook" a "cromach" in this part of the world.Stick making or stick dressing is quite a popular hobby in the UK and there are several quite serious competitions that take place during the year to gain various accollades.Stick making used to be almost the preserve of the Game Keepers, stalkers, sheepherds, etc.,that used to make the sticks during the dark winter months to earn a few extra pennies.Or,in my case, a very special 21st birthday gift.
I am surprised that you practical chaps have not caught the stick making bug, there are plenty of books, videos,DVDs on the subject.

Hello Jock Scot, I didn't want to hijack this thread so I've created a new one regarding the "cromach" over at:

One of my favorites.

That's Sam i'm wearin BTW....gen-u-ine cougar, glass eyes and all. wish i had a better picture of him. Sam was donated to the band many years ago. even most of the current regimental bands don't used real skins anymore. (comment on the nanny state resisted)

Very cool Ron, & I think I recall seeing you play at the B'ham games now!
Will you be bringing Sam this year?
