I built a swade leather sporran to wear on the side. It is narrower and deeper than the regular sporran shape. In fact it would look aughful if I wore it in the front.

Oddly, I made and started wearing that sporran a few years before I started wearing kilts.

I think I would tend to wear the drawstring style sporran on the side.

    My dear Trefor,

It is a very rare pyschological phenomena und seldom seen in Wales. Normally it is ze result of trauma as a child. Ven a young kiltling is attacked by a vild sporran it can leave permanent pyschological scarring that affects ze kilties later in life. Zis often happens in areas of Scotland that are scarely populated und the vild sporrans hide in ze shubberies. In Wales ze ysgrepan or sgrepan as they are known there are completely domesticated.

Luckily, zis condition is completely treatable with lots of ze very expensive therapy..."

One much also be mindful of the Free Range Rubber Chicken Sporran that is native to Southern Ontario. They can do strange things to ones hair and buttocks.

When I'm relaxing in my room or at home, I usually go sporann-less. When I'm out and about, I wear one, or a jacket with lots of big pockets.

One the one hand, comfort; on the other, practicality.

Cant say that I agree with you on sporrans. I rather enjoy them on my traditional kilts. My canvas kilt with a narrow apron however, I think would look terrible with a sporran. Thats why it has big cargo pockets.

I do agree with you on the Harley's. Heck its not just on Harley's for me. The sissy bar and windshield on my bike make me want to vomit but they add comfort. I will have a massive coronary if I ever add saddle bags.

I've got a sporran now (after mainly wearing UKs with pockets), but I don't particularly like it; I think I'll be looking for a leather fanny-pack that I can wear in front or back, that'll still give me a spot to keep things, but without the "purse" feel to it.

Another possibility for hanging a sporran from the belt is a sporran sling like this

Chase, 'ole buddy, I'm just the opposite. I recently got in my 1st kilt w/pockets & feel funny without a sporran. I guess it's just what you get used to.
