I wasnt aware that wearing a kilt to prom was an issue with school officials. I know in my high school the persecution would have come from other students, not the administration. I think it depends on the dress code of your prom. Mine, and most of the one around here, was formal dress - you had to wear a tuxedo. That didn't stop people from showing up in all white tailcoats (completely inappropriate, IMHO, both for a black-tie event and because tailcoats should not BE white!), but everyone had to dress up.
Somebody has to keep the tuxedo rental places in business between weddings.
I did go kilted to the Junior-Senior Formal in college, when I was Junior class president. I probably could have in HS, but I didn't think of it then.
