Wow... there are some really great recommendations so far. My list is getting longer and longer...

And if you like my recommendations so far, you must check out The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics/graphic novels. They're amazing... Some of my favorite fictional characters, a little historical fiction, and enough steampunk to make me smile.
I just finished Volume 1 and I'm having a really hard time waiting until payday (Friday) to buy Volume 2... I'm really tempted to put it on my credit card, read it between now and payday, and then buy The Black Dossier when I get paid...
