Help Needed! Scottish Sayings/Quotes
It seems I have left something important till the last minute again. It happens a lot. Tomorrow is our office open house, so our volunteers can see our new office (ok renoed office). I now have my own office. Here is the problem, the walls are blank!! I have taken a tour of all of the stores that sell art in my wee town, but I have found anything that I liked.
It's a fairly large blank wall.
Well on my nightly walk with my four legged muses, I had a brain wave. I'll DIY something. I have two fairly large old frames in my house I can use and some tartan kicking around. I thought that I would frame some tartan but that is looking too plain. So I also have old parchment looking paper. Here is where I need some help. I thought that I would place quotes and pieces of poetry on the paper, placing that in the middle and have the tartan as the background. I have been able to fill one sheet, now I need help with the other.
Please send me any Scottish sayings, quotes or poems for me to add to the other frame. Office friendly please! I have till noon eastern time.
Thanks
Sara
I will try to get pictures of them up in my office.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here
My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer
A-chasing the wild deer, and following the roe;
My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

How about the lyrics to Skye Boat Song, I don't think you'll need the full song, just a verse or two.
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the bairn that's born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.
Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar,
Thunderclaps rend the air;
Baffled, our foes stand by the shore,
Follow they will not dare.
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the bairn that's born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.
Though the waves leap, soft shall ye sleep,
Ocean's a royal bed.
Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep
Watch by your weary head.
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the bairn that's born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.
Many's the bairn fought on that day,
Well the claymore could wield,
When the night came, silently lay
Dead in Culloden's field.
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the bairn that's born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.
Burned are their homes, exile and death
Scatter the loyal men;
Yet e'er the sword cool in the sheath
Charlie will come again.
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that's born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.

Or an excerpt from the Declaration of Arbroath
as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

How about this from Robert Burns:
Robert Bruce's March To Bannockburn
Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome to your gory bed,
Or to Victorie!
Now's the day, and now's the hour;
See the front o' battle lour;
See approach proud Edward's power-
Chains and Slaverie!
Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha can fill a coward's grave?
Wha sae base as be a Slave?
Let him turn and flee!
Wha, for Scotland's King and Law,
Freedom's sword will strongly draw,
Free-man stand, or Free-man fa',
Let him on wi' me!
By Oppression's woes and pains!
By your Sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!
Lay the proud Usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty's in every blow!-
Let us Do or Die!

Glen,
You have had a quote about "no kinder heart that beats under tartan plaid" or something like that as a signature line.
I think that would be a champion quote, could you post that?
Cheers
Jamie
