The kilt length of Ancient MacKenzie that I have on order from them is 10 oz - destined for a skirt for me. I'm thinking a bias cut skirt so the selvages don't matter one bit.
Pound the heck out of your hem to make a nice crisp edge and it should be fine.
I'm trying to score an old fashioned flat iron to use as a cold press. My tailoring teacher years ago swore by them - heat and steam from a hot iron and damp press cloth and weight and press with the cold one.
