I have a Semi Trad from USA kilts in the Black Stewart Tartan, most people can not tell the the difference, take a look through the formal wear thread I am sure you will see many USA Kilts worn and looking fine.

    EDIT
I was thinking about this for a while, the USA kilt may well look fine, however if the Bride and Groom want you to rent your kilt the best thing to do is just follow their wishes as they wil have enough to worry about without wondering how you will look. After all it is their wedding. You can of course buy the USA Semi Trad anyway.

    Thanks

Thanks for the warm welcome and considered opinions. The groom has no problem with me purchasing a kilt, so my current plan, pending the arrival of the sample, is to go ahead and purchase the Semi-traditional. If it for some reason seems not to be acceptable, I will rent.

Thanks again to all who helped out.

You've made a great choice. There is no rule that says you all have to wear the same tartan, either. Go to my website, http://www.cocelticweddings.com/ , and you can see a picture on the first page of a wedding where all the guys wore rented gear. It shows. It looks very regimented. There's nothing wrong with that by any means, but variety is the spice of life. I recently officiated a wedding where I was the only kilted man. The groom was of French ancestory, and the bride was a Hay. She wanted a kilted minister. It worked out really well, and all the attendants loved it. I just this afternoon got pictures from it. You can see those in the gallery. I brought this up particularly because the kilt I am wearing in those photos is a USAK semi trad Clergy tartan kilt. You can get a good idea of how they hang and look from those pictures. You will LOVE your USAK. I know I do mine.

After visiting USAK recently, I can tell you that the PV kilts look (to my eye) nearly the same as a wool tank. You will NOT look out of place. The material is great. I was a little skeptical until I saw (and felt) with my own eyes (and hands). You will not be disappointed. Go with the USAK.

    Kilt on order

Got the swatch on Monday, looked good, ordered the kilt Tuesday: Semi-Traditional in Hunting MacLeod. Also ordered a couple pair of kilt hose. Now the waiting starts.

The waiting is the hardest part of ordering a kilt.

The best part of jonesing for a USAK, is it is well worth the wait. I love my USAK Semi traditional Kilt. The people on the train and bus all think it is a traditional tank, as I get a lot of clan/bagpipe questions. Rocky & Kelley do a superb job.
