TMI, but still Curious
While attending the Memorial Day service in our home town, I wore my USA Kilt, American Heritage tartan, and a tee shirt my daughter made with the words, "My Daughter, My Hero" on the front with her Army picture. She's in Iraq right now. Many people talked about the shirt and asked about our daughter, but not too many mentioned the kilt. The few that did, asked if I was Scottish, and they always get a confused look when I say, "No, German and Finnish." But then I always add, "Kilts are comfortable to wear!" When I told my son this part of the story and that I got more comments on the shirt than the kilt, he said, "Well, about time!"
Then I was talking with my "Harley Davidson motor cycle cousin (beard and leather jacket too)" and the bugler. They both said at the same time, "What are you wearing under the kilt?" Then my cousin said as a gust of wind came up, "I hope the wind doesn't lift your kilt!" I didn't give a straight answer, and then they both asked again, "Are you wearing underwear?" I don't know how they kept saying these things in unison. haha
Then my wife walked over to join us, and they asked her, "What is he wearing under the kilt?" She looked at me, grinned, and said, "Only I know!" Then the bugler said, "DON'T TELL US, TMI, TMI." Then he turned and sort of blushed. (TMI, for those who don't know, means 'Too Much Information.')
I think it is interesting that they wanted to know, but yet didn't want to know, but kept asking. I think they are really wondering now.
The only other comment was from a guy who worked in McDonald's where we ate lunch. He said, "Are you going to be in a parade, or were you just in one?" I bet he thought he was covering ALL the reasons by stating it that way. I again talked about the comfort and he said, "They don't let us wear skirts or kilts here." It did sound like he might be interested, and now that I made up cards to give out for our forum, I forgot to do that.
DALE.

One of my buddies basically yells at me trying to get me to tell him if I'm wearing underwear or not. Everyone around him is mystified that he wants to know that badly. It's almost an obsession with him. I always answer him that I think it's odd he spends so much time thinking about my junk. This usually shuts him up, for a while.

Wore my USA Kilts US Army tartan semi-trad after the Memorial day service I was a member of (firing party). Only a minor comment from a couple of ladies who couldn't recognize the tartan.
As for the male gender asking, there are times when I get too many guys asking. I have to look at them with a kind of sideways glance and inquire as to why they are so curious. When they stop to think what they are asking, they shut up.
Then once they get drunk, I've had them grab the back of my kilt. They almost got laid out right then and there...

I still don't know why men think they have to ask. I don't go around asking men in pants if they have underwear on or not. I don't mind the question from women though. Makes a good conversation starter.

Yeah, I'm a little confused on the fascination myself. I think maybe it's the slightly deviant nature of not wearing undergarments.

Send your daughter much thanks from those of us in Colorado who aren't healthy enough to serve. I unfortunately broke a generations-old tradition of military service in my family by having arthritic knees.

And on my behalf, please give your daughter mine and my families thanks as well.
May she return to you safe and soon.

Nothing like commenting to my own post. Thinking back when I first saw 2 guys wearing kilts, which got me thinking that I want to wear them too, that was one of my first questions to them, "What are you wearing under the kilt?"
I wonder if it is because we already were (are) freeballers and wondered if we could continue if we wore a kilt, or is it a daring thing to do? I really don't know and can't describe my thoughts either. Maybe we have to start asking more questions to the QUESTIONing people to see where they are coming from?
