My father read this RLS tale to me as a kid, so you can imagine it's one of my favorite stories involving Scotland. I also reread the book as an adult. As such, I have four different movie/TV versions:
- 1960 Walt Disney version - with Peter Finch as Alan Breck Stewart;
- 1971 version - with Michael Caine as ABS;
- 1977 British TV version - with David MacCallum as ABS;
- 1995 F. F. Coppola version - with Armand Assante as ABS.
The British TV version was difficult to find. I got it in PAL tape format and had it converted to dvd. Anyone who is a fan of NCIS may remember that a couple of seasons ago Armand Assante and MacCallum (two Alans!) shared a scene together. Fortunately, the universe did not blow up.
So, was this MT version a new production?
