Thank You!!! I thought I must be crazy for thinking about that. my wife gets on me all the time about the warehouse pile of stuff I carry with me everyday. And she won't let me dig my fanny pack out of the heap of 80's junk I have to wear it again. I don't have a sporran yet, but for the Mrs., this might pass muster!

I wear mostly UK Mockers. While Mockers have nice deep front pockets, I don't like heavy or bulky items (my phone, keys, pens, etc...) in my front pockets and really hate anything in my back pockets (whether kilted or not.) I have two 'original' UKs with the big pockets, but they don't get a lot of wear. A sporran looks just fine with a Mocker.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, the sporran also helps keep the aprons in check as well (if not better) than a modesty snap and it reiterates and reinforces that you are not cross dressing in public. Not that there is anything wrong with cross dressing in public, if it is your thing, but it isn't everyone's thing.

If the kilt has pockets I don't wear a sporran. ( Ihave a UK Mocker and Original) If it has a narrow apron I don't wear a kilt pin.

I prefer a fanny pack if I need some more carrying room, because a sporran ends up bouncing into "the boys" while I'm walking; a fanny pack also lets me shift it from the front to the hips if I want to.

I don't wear one with my AK due to the pockets. I just dropped the sporran that came with it and use the D-ring to hang my keys.
But if you wont like to use the back pocket I think it would look fine with a sporran.

Update... I've taken the pockets off of my remaining Original UK (left flaps so that I can put them back on with adding snaps if I want just like I could with my Basil Survival UK shown below) Now a sporran doesn't look out of place with any of my Mockers or my Original. You asked for photos...(Oddly, I've no photos with my Buzz Kidder Inverness Sporran, nor with the handmade silver fox...will have to remedy that.)
A SWK Nightstalker sporran (silly tassels removed and subdued clan patch added) with a Heather Grey UK Mocker...

A SWK Nighstalker sporran (silly tassels removed and subdued clan patch added) with a Basil UK Survival...

A Chris Hurst sporran with a Khaki UK Mocker...

Same Chris Hurst sporran with an Urban Camo UK Original...

I think those look great. I can think of times where a sporran would be handy (instead of just side pockets) - I think I might have to get one.

I've seen some sporrans that look good with contemporary kilts (Aracos, for instance, has impeccable taste), but on the whole I think that the rising market for contemporary kilts should also mean a rising market for contemporary sporrans designed with good looks and utilitarianism in mind. I mean, the ingenuity of X Marks members alone has astounded me- why haven't we gotten on something like this before now? If so, why hasn't it made mainstream like contemporary kilts have?

Well, they have..... Although not currently available - The Stillwater Nightstalker sporran is a prime example!

Yes and no, to an extent. The Nightstalker is a good sporran, and from what I've seen it definitely does its job. But at the same time, it seems to stick very much to the roots of a sporran's design- that is, not necessarily something that will appeal to a younger crowd. I'm talking about something edgier and perhaps more... interpretive? Like a canvas sporran that is also a double-wrap belt. You've got people running around in really awesome boots with hardcore kilts, and they don't have any sporrans edgy enough to keep up with the rest of their outfit.
