Once I have enough disposable income, I plan to get a Molnija pocket watch (I'm thinking this one) and a chain/fob from here.

Hey! A guy can dream, can't he?

I like tucking the watch in between the belt and kilt with it hooked to the belt.

I will wear a pocket watch if I'm wearing a waistcoat, but otherwise, I wear a wristwatch.

My watch fob is a penknife, which comes in handy.

I won't wear my pocket watch with a kilt until I get some sort of belt pouch or something. My watch has too much sentimental value for me to let it bang around with all the stuff in my sporran, and I just wouldn't feel comfortable with it tucked between the aprons or behind my belt.

All this talk of watches reminds me that I forgot to wind mine this morning! I'd better remedy that immediately!

If you look on google for the term 'belt watch' you'll find many adapted to belt watches of that style. I've also seen russian examples of a sort of holder case for pocket watches that clips on your belt, like cellphone holders do. :-)

Here's a picture of my great grandfather, and how he wore his pocket watch...

It seems that your best bet, at least for historical precident, would be to get some sort of vest.
