Exclamation Vest, Belt, or Neither HELP!!!!!!!!!

Being a person of ample size I find theat it is easier for myself to wear vests rather than belts. Belts seam to move out of place and need constant adjustment. I know that with a PC a vest is the norm but what about less formal attire. I know that the chief of our clan goes frequently without either with jackets and without. Just requesting that you weigh in with your opinions.

There are three types of people when it comes to work. Those that turn up their sleeves, those that turn up their nose, and those that do not turn up at all.

Jacket + Vest = no belt
    Jacket - vest = belt

    This is the general thought.

A belt is certainly not required. A good fitting kilt doesn't need one to stay up.

Beyond that Bradley has the formula down pat.

First of all it is clothing not a uniform, belt / not belt or vest / no vest is more your choice for casual wear. A belt is normally not worn with a vest because the belt pushes the bottom of the vest out and it looks funny. There are vests that are cut short and end just above the belts and then a vest belt combo may look OK. If the kilt fits correctly you don't need to wear either a vest or a belt.

The major question, especially for casual wear is what makes you feel comfortable.
If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

Yup, the previous posters have it right.

I will add that if your kilt is too large to stay up on its own, a vest hides suspenders. A kilt belt is really ornament, at least in the case of a dress belt, and if you cinch it tight enough to keep your (too large) kilt up, you get wrinkles and bulges in the waistband that are unsightly.

If you're wearing a vest, then a belts looks out of place. If you're not wearing a vest, then a belt looks good.

I think you should wear what's comfortable. If you just want to wear a vest, and no jacket or belt, that's more than fine. I honestly think that's a preferable look sometimes. I'd look through the Casual pics thread and find some looks. There's plenty there and I know that there's some with just a vest.
