I would bet, however, that if we could trace the cultural roots of women shaving their armpits and legs we would find that it originates with women themselves way back in history some time. Cosmetic embellishment and ornamentation usually does.
Think of what a uproar we would have if women had matted red chest hair though!
Actually I have some 18th C. English sources of women plucking underarm hair to control oder.

almost as bad as leggings and cowboy boots is this:

I personally don't really have anything negative to say about this picture. I'm not entirely sure that the shirt matches too well, but if he's going for the Celtic Cowboy look, I think he pulled it off. Looking at his legs I don't see leggings with cowboy boots, so I'm not sure, it look like he might be wearing Ghillie Brogues though by the strings on his calves.
Just my opinion but I think this picture is a DO, not a DO NOT.

I think I agree. This guy's kit is pretty well put together. I'm not a big fan of cowboy hats but his shirt is cool and the whole appearance minimizes the hat to some degree. Now, I don't drink but by the color of the beverage in the glass it apears that the man has good taste in refreshment.

I agree, although I'm not sure why he'd wear a felt hat in what appears to be a warm atmosphere. I only wear my felt if it's cold otherwise I sweat. I wear my straws if it's hot - that's what they're for.
It's kinda like seeing Jose in the dead of winter wearing a straw cowboy hat and rattlesnake boots. A cold head, and very slippery foot gear with ice on the ground.

I agree. That's not a bad picture at all. I don't particularly like that shirt, but it's not an egregious kilt crime.
I think the kilt grand jury has found that the kilt kops lacked probable cause to declare this a "do not".

To my mind that shirt is fighting for attention with the kilt! Of course, there are no rules laid down about this sort of thing, but it just does not look good; it is all too fussy, too 'noisy'. Our kilts are glorious, wonderous garments so let them shine in their own right - don't make them fight!
Our friend is perfectly colour co-ordinated from the waist down, and then he goes and ruins it with the shirt! How much cooler and nicer he would look with a plain shirt in the same shade of lovat green as his hose and the green in his tartan.
I have a personal 'rule' which is, plain shirts with tartan kilts and patterned shirts with plain kilts (or plain with plain, but never patterned with tartan!).
As for the hat, well I am not fazed by that. I am not a 'hat person' and find that most people look odd in them anyway, whatever the style.
The foregoing is just my opinion - aren't we fortunate that we are not all stamped from the same mould?

So on the issue of western style with a kilt, check this guy at the San Antonio Highland Games this year. I saw him last year also and I think he has some role within the games. I like his look though.

I like the bolo, but the cowboy boots just don't do it for me. Love them in their place, but that's not with socks sticking up out of them and a kilt hanging above!
One lady's opinion.
