They are all from St. Louis, and were surprised to see anyone wearing a kilt. One of them, whom I didn't know, tried to get a picture without me knowing. As more drinks were had, numerous questions about the kilt came up. I answered all of them, and the St. Louis crowd got more comfortable with the kilt. One of them admitted to thinking, "Who's the weirdo in a dress?" when she first saw me.
There's actually a fairly large Scottish community in StL...the St. Andrew's Society of St. Louis holds a number of events a year, the MO Tartan Day Festival in over in St. Charles...pity that the StL games were cancelled this year. 
StL even bosts two pipe bands; the John Ford Pipe Band and St. Louis Caledonian (nee Inveraan) Pipe Band.
