It is my favorite of the Hollywood Scottish films. For the same reasons as Matt stated. The period clothing is done very well. There's nothing weird clothing wise. I also like that not every Highlander is dressed the same. Often, Hollywood dresses the actors virtually the same.
As far as historical accuracy, it is a more romantic version of the story. The main characters like; Rob Roy (of Course), Duke of Argyll, Duke of Montrose, and even Archibald Cunningham are a part of Rob's life at some point.
I suggest reading William H. Murray's book: Rob Roy MacGregor "The Highland Rogue."

I think "Rob" would have stirred up the protests of both the Marquis of Montrose and the Duke of Argyll by appearing in nothing but his underwear, namely his longshirt. What's good for a Highland battle may not have gone over well for a gentleman's duel. "Rob Roy" is also one of my favorites, too....so much so, that I have to limit how often I watch it for fear that I could possibly grow tired of it.
