Tucking your shirt in when going casual.

I've done that before, but i still wore that belt as I have sporran hangers not a chain or strap.

I always tuck in a T or a polo, I seldom wear a sporran or kilt belt. That said, I have been considering the Aloha shirt with kilt look and those, with buttons, I always wear out; I haven't worked that one through yet, the tucked T under with it open and out seems the best approach.

Sports jerseys and "work shirts" I always leave untucked.

T shirts I USUALLY tuck in, but I occasionally untuck

Normally I'd say tuck the shirts in because I think it looks better most of the time. BUT (didn't see that coming did you) it depends on the shirt, the kilt and the situation.

With sport kilts you can get away with a more casual look than with a wool kilt, I think especially since you can do away with a belt.

Also since you will be performing in the kilt, you will need unrestricted movement so I'd say go with untucked or a shirt with an extra long tail that can stay tucked in but have lots of leeway for movement. But untucked will make it easier for you to do the "Hulk Hogan" shirt rip when you win!!

Oh yeah, and where are the action shots of you wrestling in the kilt?

I plan on getting some shots taken of me wrestling once my new sportkilt comes in, which should be by either this Saturday or next.

By Christmas I'll be wearing a singlet instead of a shirt anyway, or at least that's the goal.

Well, when the weather gets over 100 and your walking in it, an untucked shirt feels WAY better than it tucked in a kilt!

T-shirts, polos, button-downs I usually tuck in so that more of the kilt shows. Just my thoughts on the subject.

As has already been said, there really are no written rules on this sort of thing but, to my mind, there are things we do which can distrurb the eye of the beholder!

I like to think that I usually (if not always) present the best image I possibly can to 'Joe Public' when out 'there', and so check my appearance in a full-length mirror before leaving the house.

One thing I have learned over the years is to always tuck in my shirts, whether they be T-Shirts, Polo Shirts, dress shirts or casual shirts, when kilted. Somehow, one needs to define the waist-line to achieve what I have been referring to here for years: visual balance. If the natural waistline cannot be seen, the alternative feature is the hem or bottom of the shirt which, being lower, lengthens the appearance of the torso and shortens the appearance of the legs. In other words, the visual balance of the wearer's body is distorted - in some cases, considerably.

Take time to check this out for yourself - look at your appearance in a full-length mirror and see yourself from the viewpoint of a stranger coming across you on the pavement/sidewalk. You know where your waistline is, but the stranger can only guess - not that 99.9% of them wll consciously look for your waistline but, unconsciously they will. If you are un-tucked, what will they or, in this instance, you see? A guy with an overlong torso and stubby legs!!

Everyone of us must dress according to our own wishes, of course but, if asked for advice, I will always answer, "Tuck your shirt in!"

I guess there are levels of "formality" even within casual dress. I think a polo shirt tucked in looks great... but is a little "dressier" than the pic above. Hmm... The lads in Scotland watching the footy at the pub will wear it either way. That's good enough for me!
