Thanks T.H. That sound like just what I am looking for. I think I am going to put my first order in Wedsday morning. That PV kilt sound like a great first timer kilt.

Sounds like you are the perfect candidate for a PV kilt. Polyester/viscose blend is washable, looks great, and is cool enough for central TN summers and warm enough for middle TN winters.

USA Kilts is a great place to start. Check out their casual line, and choose whatever tartan strikes your fancy...no one will be "upset".

Don't miss the "Casual" photos in the Pics forum to see a variety of "daywear" looks. Most folks stick to brown leather accessories for daytime / casual occasions.

And when you're ready for a "tank", Tennessee has a state tartan (and it's a great looking tartan, too). You'll only find it in wool, however.

    Welcome to the addiction.

For daily wear, I would suggest one of the washable kilts, such as the ones sold by Sport Kilt. Pick one of the universal tartans you like the looks of, and then add as many bells and whistles as taste and pocket will allow. (I am assuming that you do not mean office type work. In that case something a bit more formal would be in order, USA Kilts would be my first stop). Remember, a tartan kilt is as formal, or informal as the rest of the ensemble makes it. Check out some of the threads as to what to wear with a kilt. All the way from the very formal (white tie+ of the Sheffmiur and Prince Charlie to a T-shirt, or even no shirt, pushed down sox and heavy soled boots.
