but since I live close by ...
Added bonus: I can walk into SK with almost anything in my hands (and often have) and they will make a kilt out of it - wether or not anybody else considers it a kilt is not my problem.

Really? Interesting. I have been wanting a Denver Broncos kilt.
So anyways, here's another thing to consider. I'm in an historical reenactment group called the Renaissance Scots. We are doing a festival tomorrow. I helped set up tonight, of course, wearing my SK. A breeze came up and blew the thing up to my ears. And when I say breeze, I mean gentle. Our clan cheif's kids now know what I wear under my kilt...

All of my current kilts are Sportkilts. The first was, as Riverkilt called it, pleated to the gather; that's the one my eight year old wears for knocking around. The other two are much nicer, one cotton with a real selvedge called ancient, that I wear for, again, knocking around, the other is a poly/wool that was called Black Watch(it's close).
There were shipping issues with the second batch, which I had ordered direct; Seamus was helpful and freindly over the phone. I have no complaints with any of them. I have been tempted by the black hawaiian, but it's currently not on the website.
In the meantime, I've accumulated some fabric and I'm trying Alan's Xkilt instructions for myself.
