There was a time when the best Highland wear was as much plaid as possible, sometimes not matching at all.

I think they pulled it off back then, but I'm not sure about today. Maybe it's the type of shirt, I never got into the button down collared shirts.

Just a note.
My wife is a Campbell, I took a look at the Clan Campbell website. The Clan Chief makes it clear that there is no tartanas for Clan Campbell other than what we associate with Blackwatch. No dress, no anything... he actually sounded a bit like a prig about it.

Nicely done on the shirt, but as my mother always said, "never mix your plaids, dear."

Are you referring to this article?
http://www.ccsna.org/jsep50a.htm
I don't think he sounds like a "prig" at all -- in fact, he's doing his "job", so to speak, by clarifying which tartans are recognised and which are not. As the article states:
"There is only one authority on the correct tartan or tartans of a clan: the chief of that clan."

Vmac, them ain't mixed tartans...both the shirt and the kilt are U.S. Navy/Edzell tartans. Just different sett size though. See a LOT of old pics of kilted Scots with mixed tartans...course, might have been the whisky...

The modern Buchanan is sometimes easy to find in flannel, plain cotton, and golf styles. I've got a golf style that was given to me, but I'd prefer a flannel or button-down cotton. I've been too lazy to look.

Seventy bucks just for a shirt? Ouch!
I'll wait 'til they come to K-mart for Fifteen.
