I used quite a bit of the info from these online instructions when making my first handsewn a few years ago. One point I was fortunate to ignore was their recommendation to put darts into the aprons to take up some of the hip/waist difference. I learned from other sources that darting the aprons is "just not done" and marks the kilt as an amateur production -- a poorly made amateur production, at that.
I'm glad now to have Barb's book, but these free online instructions got me going long before I found XMarks.
