It's true I did research patterns for a Montrose and found several that could be adapted. However, Kevin of this board advises being wary of using patterns, unless you are an experienced tailor. There is also a thread in which is a post that describes how to make a simple tailor's dummy using an old T shirt, grease and duct tape that will be close to an exact replica of one's own torso. If I were to try, I would made a test jacket out of inexpensive material first using the dummy.

I never attempted making a jacket. It would be beyond my simple talents, such as they are. I was not in a hurry, and through careful shopping came across a Montrose, a PC and a doublet that are more than sufficient for my needs and at very good prices. Unfortunately, they are made of traditional materials, and I live in the sultry and humid American South. Fortunately, there are almost no formal Scots events held here in any but the cooler months, due, I suspect for this reason.

I wear the Montrose with a T shirt underneath and collar and cuffs, no shirt. It's just too warm here to do otherwise. Sometimes <gasp> I even remove the collar, and have not yet been evicted from the event I was dressed for.

If you decide to have a Montrose made in tropical or light weight cloth, please let us know how it goes.
