I'm just now starting to try to figure out sporran cantles and waistplates, so I don't fully understand what all should be on a metal cantle .

Is there a theme to the gold buttons like Navel anchors, that could or should be carried on into the buckle and sporran?

We haven't gotten the buttons yet, so I don't know if there will be a theme. As to getting a waistcoat and forgetting about the belt, well, this is I suppose more semi-formal than formal. And even if I got the waistcoat and didn't need a belt, there's still the sporran issue. I don't want to have to paint or gild any accents; I'd be too worried about having to deal with keeping it touched up. I really want to find one that's already gold-tone. I'll check out the Geoffrey ebay seller; I know them. Thanks!

Would think you'd want to go with one or the other... staying with brown/brass/gold, or black/gray/silver. Mixing them wouldn't be fatal, of course, just unfortunate.

This would be semi formal or formal, so the jacket and leathers would be black, though...

I have been trying to put together my brown daywear outfit with a silver/gold combination [silver and gold together on each item] but I'm not sure that would work well for the black. I didn't realize you didn't have the buttons yet.

    Good luck.

Wow... ya'll know EVERYTHING! *bows down before all-knowing-males* Phil, that's a handsome belt buckle, and I love Montroses. One of our guys has a black one. But the 90 USD buckle is just more than we want to pay right now. However, I'm a-thinking I'm a-gunna get the one from SWK. And I contacted Geoffrey and they indeed have a sporran with gold tone trimmings! Whoopdy-do! (Is that how you spell that?...)

NOW... (you knew there was more)... what about gold tone sporrans and belt buckles in boys' sizes? You know, for family matching?
