Gold-tone kilt accessories (my plan)
Although so far he's only worn borrowed PCs with silver buttons, my overall plan is to outfit my Navy vet in all gold-tone kilt accessories.
SPORRAN: I found a nice black fur sporran with "gilt" cantle, and swapped out the standard silver chain for gold-tone (from Home Depot). The chain oxidizes quickly, so we've replaced it again -- I've seen suggestions here about thrift-shopping for replacement/unusual chain, will keep that in mind.
KILT PIN: Using a lovely piece of military jewelry that started life as a Navy CPO cap pin. No, he wasn't a CPO (but my father was, which is why I remembered that pin so well). It looks a treat, will post a pic sometime when I figure out how. Pin is a combo of silver and gold, here's a link to an exhaustive treatise on the various styles over the years: http://www.quarterdeck.org/uniforms/...HatDevices.htm
KNIFE THINGY: Sorry, too lazy to look up the spelling. . . originally found him a dark wood handled one with brass fittings. He's since purchased himself a bone-handled one with no metal showing, so that's moot.
Now, the somewhat unconventional part of the plan. . . I want to make, or convert, a black PC and vest. I already have the buttons I'd like to use, found them at Walmart of all places, and get this -- made in U.S.A.! I didn't think domestic goods were allowed at WallyWorld, but I digress. Buttons are a round gold anchor pattern, much as shown here: http://www.waterburybutton.com/user-...age=1&id=10062
I've seen mention of gold buttons on kilt jackets in some of the conversion threads, so I don't think I'm too far-out. And if challenged, we always have the Clan MacWerner traditions for back-up (i.e., we make them up as we go ).
All finished off with his impressive display of service ribbons.
Comments, opinions, recommendations? TIA!

Sure - Why not? There are no hard and fast rules!

Gold buttons? Sure, no reason not to. As far as the service ribbons are concerned, ribbons are never worn on a PC or with mess dress. A Prince Charlie coatee is, ultimately, a form of mess dress so ribbons aren't appropriate. Go with miniature medals, or no medals at all.
