Hi all,
I'm not sure if it's okay to name names & the business they run, but a certain Canadian Gentleman Kiltmaker in south western Ontario assures me he has seen kilts in a heavy raw silk that held up beautifully. Although I take his word for it (he's a Scotsman, isn't he?), I think I would rather spend the money on a pure wool kilt, preferably a 16 oz'er.
I'm afraid I am limited by my own experience which has always been in a winter Country, so to all you gentlemen south of the 60th parallel, please excuse my ignorance regarding the comfort & looks of a kilt made of material other than pure virgin wool.
To each his own I guess.

When it comes to wool,..the heavier the better. I have always thought 16oz was the minimum weight for a kilt (I know,...I'm one of those traditionalists.) The last couple of years, I have really started leaning toward 19oz material.
