I've seen a few men's style magazines of late that have been saying it's OK to mix it up a bit - everything doesn't have to be so matchy-matchy. But as they also say, you have to know the rules to be able to break them, by which they mean to be able to break them >just so.<

Given that tartans are usually a big riot of colors anyway, it is probably a good idea for the average kiltie to stick by the customary rules of thumb. Except for the blue shirt and tie in the Duke's ensemble, there is not much of a riot - perhaps a mere scuffle - but had I been there to lay out His Royal Clothes that morning, I probably would have given him brown shoes.

    Regards,
    Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Agreed, but I don't think he would have to have gone with brown accessories because Chef has said black was acceptable as day wear.

With the blue shirt/tie and the green, I would think the brown would have a warmer tone, though. Maybe the Duke was having mixed feelings that day...

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
