Duke of Rothesay in Architectural Digest
Reading my latest issue of Architectural Digest, there is an article on how the Duke of Rothesay (Prince Charles as he is known when in Scotland) through his Regeneration Trust is restoring Kinloch Castle on the Isle of Rum.
One very picture of him walking alongside the project architects, and of course he is kilted, in the green hues he is so fond of.
I thought Matt would appreciate his hose tops as well.

He appears to be wearing black shoes and a brown sporran. Is mixing leather colors a new trend amoung the elite?

It appears to be a fur (dress) sporran which may explain the black shoes and brown sporran.

I think if he's wearing it, it's in style. That's like telling the queen she's the one out of fashion.

I have to admit doing this quite often while dressed very casually.
...does that make me elite...
Surely you can't be serious?
I am serious...and don't call me Shirley.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I've seen several photos of the Duke wearing black shoes and brown sporran.

Actually, in Matthew A. C. Newsome's blog "Black v. Brown,"
pairing black shoes with brown accessories is discussed.
The rules I learned are match the belt with the shoes, and never put a brown belt and shoes with clothes like a black or gray shirt (and so on).

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I've seen a few men's style magazines of late that have been saying it's OK to mix it up a bit - everything doesn't have to be so matchy-matchy. But as they also say, you have to know the rules to be able to break them, by which they mean to be able to break them >just so.<
Given that tartans are usually a big riot of colors anyway, it is probably a good idea for the average kiltie to stick by the customary rules of thumb. Except for the blue shirt and tie in the Duke's ensemble, there is not much of a riot - perhaps a mere scuffle - but had I been there to lay out His Royal Clothes that morning, I probably would have given him brown shoes.
Regards,
Rex.

The Duke's tie is unclear,on my screen, but at a guess it is The Gordon Highlanders regimental tie, one of his favourites I am told.
