    My family was very lucky. Our power was out at my house for about 8 hours or so. Did have a tree fall on our house while we were trying to get the kids to take a nap (they're 3 - son, and 19 months - daughter) but no excitement other than that. Getting it off the roof was a little tricky. Most important, everyone is okay.

    Hmmm, generator time... Went through the same situation in December 2006. Didn't have power for 6 days. On the second day, we borrowed a small generator that could run the refrigerator and the furnace, but not much else. On the fourth day, we bought our own. Can run about 80% of the house without overloading the generator. Great thing to have, especially during winter, when the storms roll in.

    Rex;

    Most people and business remain without power here in Houston. I came into the office to work and get a hot meal or two. I do have potable water and a generator to run the fridge four hours a day. But, the biggest concern is that it is still difficult to get gasoline as all pumps run on electricity. The good news is things are turning around...just slowly. I'm luckier than most.

    Well, I do count my blessings. I know things could be worse. And I really feel for the folks who really took the brunt of the hurricanes.

    I really needed to empty out the freezer anyway; everything in there was what you'd consider archival. And considering that my worst crisis so far was having to trade the last of my tonic for a bowl of ice so I could enjoy a cocktail, I really have no grounds for complaint.

    The food service at our operations center has been offering meals to go and selling grillables for employees to bring home to their families. Gyms have opened their showers to the public. Slowly powers is being restored. It's on next door, but not at my house yet. I've gotten a couple nights good sleep, meanwhile, since there's nothing to keep me up.

    At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

    Dayton got beat up in this wind too. 70 MPH or so in the area. I did not receive any damage but many trees are down in the area. We lost power Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Still out and because of the trees we don't expect to get power until maybe the weekend from what I am hearing now.

    I can't imagine what sustained 70 MPH or greater winds would be like and all the rain they got in Houston area.

    I went to the Ohio Rens fest on Saturday in kilt. Good thing I did not try that on Sunday! Wanted to hear Father, Sons, and Friends. They were playing that weekend. I plan on going back on the Highland weekend.

    Louisville got hit hard, too (hurricane-force winds recorded at each of our two airports). I was without electricity at home from Sunday until Friday evening. I had to take the portable power pack for my CPAP machine to work with me to recharge it every other day. We have a gas range and gas water heater, so we were much better off than many. No damage to the house, either.

    I wasn't out in the worst of it, but was out in some fairly stiff breezes, and had no trouble with my AlphaKilt blowing up.
    Lovin' the breeze 'tween m'knees!

    My sympathies to all from Coastal Texas and all others in the storm's path. Hope things more or less get back to normal soon. A friend has a father in the ICU in Houston, talk about high anxiety!
