Carnegie Hall Opening Night Gala Kilted On My Birthday

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 was the Opening Night Gala at Carnegie Hall for the 2008 Season. It also happened to be my 47th birthday. Some tickets opened up at the last minute. My brother in law and his wife were scheduled to attend with a party.

The host, a Wall Street big wig, was called to Washington to help save us all from the Wall Street fiscal crisis. I got the call on Sunday night asking if we wanted to go. After giving my brother in law a resounding "yes", I immediately assembled kilted formal attire.

What follows, dear reader, are photos of our evening in a luxury box at Carnegie Hall, repleat with celebrities and assorted shenanigans. The rabble are everywhere, there is no escaping us! Here is a shot of my kit for the evening. Yes, sports fans, those are opera pumps. A man in opera pumps is a man and a half. At least that's what my lovely lady wife, the Celtic Amazon Inordinately Hot Bohemian Wall Street Wonder [CAIHBWSW] says. I apologize in advance for my poor photographic skills.

"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.

Lower half. I can't abide white hose, so the green were my choice. The ulitmate intent is to acquire tartan hose for formal occasions, but I must await further funding...

Kilted pose outside Carnegie Hall showing the marque for the evening's event. I confess, I have changed into some comfy shoes. I'm too old for painful fashion, no matter how exquisite.
