I promised you celebrities, didn't I? The box next door was inhabited by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Henry Kravis of KKR and Caroline Kennedy. The box next to that one included Barbara Walters.

We in our box conformed to the New York City code--you do not make a fuss over celebrities in your midst, you do not pester them for photo ops or autographs, you pretend that you are somehow their equal, that nothing is extraordinary, and you leave them in peace to enjoy the event. Despite that, my good wife took the excuse of taking my picture to coincidentally include a shot of Michael Douglas over my shoulder. The exquisite earlobe, cheek, neck and shoulder in the lower left corner belong, of course, to Catherine Zeta-Jones, who sat in front of me in the adjacent box for the second half of the show. My only comment, with apologies to F. Scot Fitzgerald is, that like the very rich, the very beautiful are different from you and me. Catherine Zeta-Jones is even more beautiful in person than I could have imagined. It is suspicious to me that my wife managed to get a shot of Michael Douglas, but had no opportunity to catch more of Catherine Zeta-Jones...

Interior shot from the Gala Journal, giving a better view of the Hall than my photography.

After the show, outside Carnegie Hall. The bus barely visible in the background was a shuttle to take us to the Gala Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria. However, unfortunately I cannot provide photos of the dinner because we did not go. My wife had to fly out to Alaska on Sunday, and had gotten home from there after midnight the night before. She had the unenviable task of having to sell bonds to the Alaska Permanent Fund while the entire financial world teeters on the brink. Accordingly, she was shattered, it was late, and we scampered back to Long Island.

A parting shot of the post concert crowd outside Carnegie Hall. And that, dear reader, concludes my submission. It was a fabulous evening, and a birthday I'll not forget. There may not be many more such opportunities, so I'm glad we were able to do this.

Galician, thank you for the kind words. The kilt is a USA Kilts Semi-Traditional in the MacPherson Red tartan. Hey Rocky and Kelly, you made it to Carnegie Hall!

    Oh, what a fantastic opportunity!

And you dressed so well for the occasion. Btw, what is the tartan, and who did the kilt?

    Thanks for sharing.
