I promised you celebrities, didn't I? The box next door was inhabited by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Henry Kravis of KKR and Caroline Kennedy. The box next to that one included Barbara Walters.

We in our box conformed to the New York City code--you do not make a fuss over celebrities in your midst, you do not pester them for photo ops or autographs, you pretend that you are somehow their equal, that nothing is extraordinary, and you leave them in peace to enjoy the event. Despite that, my good wife took the excuse of taking my picture to coincidentally include a shot of Michael Douglas over my shoulder. The exquisite earlobe, cheek, neck and shoulder in the lower left corner belong, of course, to Catherine Zeta-Jones, who sat in front of me in the adjacent box for the second half of the show. My only comment, with apologies to F. Scot Fitzgerald is, that like the very rich, the very beautiful are different from you and me. Catherine Zeta-Jones is even more beautiful in person than I could have imagined. It is suspicious to me that my wife managed to get a shot of Michael Douglas, but had no opportunity to catch more of Catherine Zeta-Jones...
