When I started running cross-country back in high school (They had high school way back then? Yes, children...but we were only allowed to speak Latin.) I was told to wear a slippery synthetic material sock under the wool sweatsock to prevent blisters. Back then the socks were Ban-Lon but now I'm sure that there must be a better, more breathe-able material available.
I'd also check your shoe size...no joke. Not every manufacturer's size nine is the same and I've bought shoes based on the marked size only to find them a bit snug or a bit loose and both extremes can cause more wear and tear on the socks. Needless to say, these days I'm always careful to try them on rather thoroughly before I buy them. Actually, I've found the Euro size to be a better measure than the US size.
Best of luck resolving this...it's annoying to have things wear out prematurely.
