You should think how Columbus would feel if he heard you say that. I care because I got the day off.

Yes, ALL USA Holidays, official and not, have a political or religious origin -- the relative merits of which are best not discussed here.
Story: For many years in the Commonwealth (State) of Pennsylvania, Flag Day (June 14) was a (State) Official Holiday. Then one year it was no longer “official”. My oldest daughter was born on June 14 and as a young child she thought that the holiday was in honor of her birthday. She was not pleased when the Official Holiday status was revoked.
I can’t think of a kilted connection to Columbus Day.

All right, here we go. Columbus was working for Spain and so on. Columbus lead the way to opening the old world to the new world. California was a property or teritory of Spain at one point.
April sixth is California Poppie day in California. April sixth is also tartan day in America.
April and October are astrologically connected to each other, as well as, many other parts of all this.
So-there you go.
BTW there's a full moon coming up too.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Didn't wear a kilt on Columbus Day, but then again, I was in bed all day (under the weather.)

I have a feeling that you can link yourself to Kevin Bacon as well, can't you?
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

Well... When existing in an universe that was once in a state of quantum singularity anything is possible. You know, the whole entanglement and re-entanglement thing...
I don't really know if Kevin Bacon wore a kilt on Monday, though. Perhaps in a different bubble.

Ok you can be kilted for Canadian Thanksgiving instead . I also just realized today that it is the Navy birthday 13 October] which I should have know [bad Sailor, no grog for you ] which is an even better excuse for going kilted than Columbus.

Kilted for Columbus Day Company Picnic
My company does not give Columbus Day as a holiday, however, my division is almost all government consultants, and we can bill the government for hours on a government holiday. Therefore, my division has a picnic. I normally do not wear the kilt at work, I am required to wear suit (NOT sport coat a SUIT). So I decided to wear my Stillwater thrifty USMC kilt, full up with kilt hose etc. I didn't want to wear an expensive kilt, because there were athletic competitions. I claimed the kilt was psychological warfare for the tug-of-war competition between departments. It worked, me team slaughtered them! I think someone got pictures and I will post them when I get them. Lots of good comments and a number of good looking younger lady consultants were giving me the eye. Michele (my wife) had a very smug expression on her face.
